It's been quite awhile
Adam and Eve were the first ones to ignore the Apple terms and conditions. I have talked about this before but it's been a long while so I am going to talk about it again. I have new stuff to add to it. I participate in a learning program put on by the Ardmore Institute of Health. The program is called "Full Plate Living". It is a free program and you can learn a lot about nutrition and cooking from this program. I joined a long time ago and I'm still participating. It's very

Still doing 'that'
Why did the candle feel happy? It got really 'lit'. What am I still doing? you ask. I am still comparing my old self (young self?) to my current self. That really has to stop. Everyone, at some point in their life, is told not to compare their own self to someone else, or to others. Especially Hollywood people. Those folks just are not any image to hold up for anyone. My issue is my size. For the first almost 50 years of my life I was either slender or skinny. Sometimes ver

Life. It Never Stops Moving and Changing.
I keep comparing my current self to my old self. I have to quit that. Have you ever stopped for a moment — really stopped — and noticed how much has changed around you? The kids are a little taller. The seasons have shifted. A recipe you used to make every week has been replaced by something new. Life doesn't ask permission before it moves on. I've been thinking about this a lot lately. There are days when I feel like I'm running to keep up — with the family, with the kitchen

Okay. I give up.
So, there's this huge purge happening ------in my head. LOL. No, I am cleaning out all kinds of stuff. I put a 'FREE' table out front and anything that was new or unused that I had not used (um, duh) and had no plans to use in the near future went out on that table. I even put houseplants out there. Stuff did go away. I look around at every room in this place, especially the bedroom, and find that all I have truly accomplished so far (at least that is visible) is make a horr

Carry on.....
How does that song go? Carry on my wayward son, there'll be peace when you are done. ??? I feel like that song should be rewritten to fit my current situation. So here we go...... Once I rose above the clutter and confusion Just to get a glimpse beyond the illusion I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high Though my eyes could see I was still behind Though my mind could think I still was going to make it I hear the voices when I'm dreamin', I can hear them say (

Love me a bargain...
There is a fruit stand, produce market, farmer's outlet, whatever it is called just a 2 block walk from my place. I love that. They regularly have a 'dollar table' where they bag up produce that is on it's last leg and sell it for only $1. It's a good deal even if the items are less than perfect. Over ripe bananas make good banana bread, they are super sweet. Mangos that have gotten a bit too soft are great, that's the way I like them. Soft apples make pretty good apple crisp

The Struggle is Real
So apparently RSVP'ing back to a wedding invite 'maybe next time' isn't the correct response. LOL. I love those one-liners. So, yeah, the struggle. It applies to so many things in my little world. Let me start with my desire to move. I want to move. Yet, the thought of moving after this many decades is truly overwhelming. It would mean parting with a huge number of items, a whole lot of work, an expenditure I would not be pleased to put out and 'adjusting'. Rebuilding. Ugh

This one will surprise you
I am still making up recipes for this week. And I have one that I think will surprise you. Here's the menu list: Black Bean Burgers with the fixin's and potatoes. That Arugula Salad with this week' fish, Salmon Sweet Potato Pizza Pasta Tamahtah I am gradually getting back on schedule. Another week I think and I will have that accomplished. I am working on other projects as I go. Not going to say exactly what they are at this time. Maybe later. What's that you say? What is

Do you memorize all those things?
I memorized my social security number. I memorized my own phone number. I memorized my home address and zip code. I memorized my car's license plate number. I did not memorize my bank account number. I did not memorize my driver's license number. I did not memorize my paypal number. There sure is a lot more things I did not commit to memory than things I did. I am not sure anymore what I should train my brain to recall on demand. There's all these phone numbers - I use an add

It still surprises me!
What building in New York has the most stories? The public library. No really, I am still surprised by the idea that I eat hippy-dippy foods. Things like: eggplant, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, kale, arugula (rocket), raw spinach, yogurt, cabbage, turnips, and radishes. It also surprises me that I eat like I came from Japan, stuffing myself with things like: tofu and brown rice. I haven't even started on things like beans, barley and steel cut oats. You have to understand

Monday is Kitchen Day
It’s always windy in a sports arena. All those fans. Yup, as you know because I have said so many times, Monday is kitchen day. I clean the kitchen on Mondays and I always start early on that. I clean as I go. If I use the microwave then I clean it. If I use the counter top I clean it. If I use a glass I clean it. etc. But this Monday I have other stuff I want to get to. First, I need to sew. I have not lost any weight (sad face) but my body has changed shape and this means

What the heck is a tin fish?
Is this a fish made out of tin? A decoration? A Yard Thing? I heard this expression on a news cast the other morning that was talking about what I thought was health. (?) So I perked up and started paying attention but I guess I had missed the pertinent stuff already. This led me to have to do a web-search. The answer was quick and concise: Tin fish refers to seafood that is preserved and packaged in metal cans, commonly including varieties like tuna, sardines, and mackerel.

Star Light Dreams
I have some of the most delightful dreams sometimes. (I have some of the others, too, of course). I dream about riding a Unicorn through a field of wildflowers. I dream about riding a Pegasus through fluffy clouds of cotton candy. I dream of transforming from my current self into a flowing being of light, of energy, of rainbows. Then I swirl and twirl like a gentle tornado from place to place leaving a trail of sparkly, glittery, happy dust in my wake. I call those my "Light"

Weather Whiplash and Other Things
The weather is all over the place here where Iive. 80 degrees (F) in March? Yes, it did that. Then turns around and decides it should drop to near freezing at night. Right now it's only 33 degrees (F). No, really. I tried to be smart and not stick sensitive things in the ground yet or in my bucket garden dirt. I did plant pea seeds and carrot seeds, but then, they rather like having a bit of cool before their season starts. I did plant gladiola bulbs. Bulbs have to have time

Family, not just people
Original post was on Jan 21 2023. I have a large family, but it seems we are spread out from one end of the country to the other with pockets of us dropped here and there. (Edited to read: extended family.) For me, family isn't just people and it isn't only those born from the same parents. It's a very inclusive group with pets playing an important role. I'm posting a picture of our two little guys (long-haired chihuahuas). One really looks more like a Papillion than a Chihua

WOW !
I have been having trouble getting my hands on artichoke hearts. I have tried multiple times and they just are not available. This is a canned good so it surprised me. I ended up doing a web search about this problem and was stunned to learn that we (we meaning the whole world) is in a huge food crisis right now. There was Cyclone Harry that caused a lot of problems over there in Italy, which I had not even heard about. And many of the artichokes we get come from there. The s

You can fully furnish a home for free
It's true. I have monitored the free section on Craigslist for some time now, usually looking for some little thing I need, like free 5 gallon buckets. I check Facebook Marketplace now and then. And I also check Nextdoor freebies now and then. You really can furnish an entire home for free by picking up items, free, from nearby. I am including beds, sofas, recliners, dining tables, patio tables and chairs, kitchen tables, end tables, dressers, coffee tables, hanging macrame p

Seriously?
You think I should write a book? While I think it is true that I always have something to say I hesitate to think that it is an indication of a talent in authorship. I am not the writer in the family. Do you think it's possible that I could grab the talent via Osmosis? LOL How does NASA organize a party? They planet.

I Am On Guard !
I am guarding my thoughts. I am trying to ensure that my thoughts are focusing on what I want and what I like. My positive thought for today? "Everything is happening for me, not to me." I like that. I am paying attention to my 'resting face', which tends to look like a scowl, and telling myself to smile. Yes, for no reason, just smile. A little bit. For a moment. In my opinion the world is in a mess. But not my little world, my corner where I live, my section of town where

Are you happy? Yes, I am.
Decades of studies of happiness and emotional well-being have proven that experiencing greater happiness is within the control of almost every individual. There’s no magic cure for misery, but multiple cognitive, emotional, and physical behaviors can multiply your chances of feeling better about your life. Things Happy People Choose Not to Do They don’t dwell on setbacks or unpleasantness. Ruminating on negative thoughts crowds out space for positive thinking while also creat
