Besides being the wrap-up of another year, and a month filled with all kinds of larger bills to pay, this month in my family is loaded up with birthdays. Nieces, cousins, aunts, a sister and myself too all have birthdays this month.

Even my mother-in-law has a birthday this month. I had several ideas for gifts to give her but none of them panned out. We ended up having to ask her what she would like, which of course takes out any element of surprise.

She said she likes to eat out at a certain restaurant and would like a gift card for that particular place.

This leads me to confess that I really do not like gift cards, not to give them, not to receive them. I feel there is so many times they are not used or only partially used and both the giver and receiver lose out on money that could have been better spent.

This is the frugal side of me oozing out all over.

We have decided that we will write a check for her to use at her favorite restaurant instead. This makes so much more sense to me.

The rest of you? If you are not on Facebook where I post a Happy Birthday message to you then look for a homemade card to appear in your mailbox (if I have your current address).

As for Holiday prezzies, well folks, if you have not told me what you want then you should not expect a gift. You will either be celebrated in thought or you will receive a small check that you can use in any way you please.

I know, it's impersonal. Too bad. I'm too old to be trying to run around and figure out what to get folks who do not communicate with me. <sigh>

Just for future reference, if you wish to get what you want in a gift giving situation (like birthdays and holidays) then drop hints, say it outright, make a list and text it or message it on social media that you share or even email it.

Otherwise, how can you expect to get what you really would like?

Okay, enough of that blathering.

This is also the month where I start to look forward to Spring and all the stuff that I want to do when Spring comes. Like planning a garden, little field trips, prepping for critter feeding tools and all that sort of thing. So be not surprised if I post pictures of flowers, gardens, fairies and other such things that remind me of a nicer season.

"Stop hating on lazy people. We didn't even do anything."

"I went to see a child psychiatrist, that kid didn't know what he was talking about."
