Still Curious

I wondered what the price of things might be now that Feast Day has come and gone, for that $40 deal at Aldi's and Walmart. I had to check it out. Turkey is still the same price. (For a whole frozen turkey the same size). The Artisan Macaroni and Cheese is still the same price. The Pumpkin is still the same price. And so forth. So it makes me wonder how much of a deal that whole thing really was? Just another thing for me to puzzle over but still be grateful for at the same time. So if you are thinking that you might want to do it again for the next Holiday, then you are in luck.
The next thing that I wanted to know about is what does it mean when something says "shelf-stable". Well, short answer is that the item does not have to be refrigerated, that it stays stable and okay to eat being stored on a shelf. This is usually applied to things that normally would have had to be put in the fridge to keep. I knew that much already but I wanted to know what they were doing to it to make it shelf stable? This was sparked by using ZOE to give the Artisan Macaroni And Cheese a rating, which it did not do well in that rating. It said shelf stable on the packaging so I wondered if that was the reason. Often they used to use TransFats to help stabilize stuff but they cannot use it freely anymore due to new regulations. So I had to look at the ingredients and found there were no trans fats included in it.
Here's the ingredients list:

Sodium phosphate - Sodium Alginate - Mono and Diglycerides - Sorbic Acid, etc. Those things don't sound like food to me. Ugh. Now I have to look up each and every one of those things and find out what they are and what it does to my body when I ingest it. What a pain.
I am not going to bore you with all of those details. I am going to do it for my own satisfaction and let you know if there is something there that I would find concerning.
In the meantime, I ate it anyway. I added a couple of things because that's what I do and it was good tasting and the texture was good and no, there was no "powdered" anything.
Now I move on to more of internal questions that seem to be never ending. And I get back to sewing elastic into my pants so they will quit falling down.
Have a fun weekend. TTFN
