My pledge to myself

I am making a pledge to myself to make the effort to try and eat more fruit. I know I should eat more fruit, I just have trouble making myself do it.
If I eat too much fruit my body reacts in unpleasant ways, so I am not pledging to eat lots, just more.
Every diet list of menus (the healthy ones) stick fruit in the plan as part of a meal or as the main part of a snack if not the snack all by itself.
For day one you'd be eating a pear, an apple and a banana. All three in one day. For day three you'd repeat that and in between on day two you'd eat a peach, an orange, and almonds.
To me, that is a lot of fruit. I am more of a vegetable person. Some people favor 'sweet' and some people favor 'salty'.
I am a savory girl. And fruit tends to be sweet.
It's that time of year where all the best fruits are coming into the stores and farmer's markets. Even though it is nasty hot where I live (I am not exaggerating) the fruit is there.
I love bananas. I can eat those all the time. However, bananas tend to raise my blood glucose and that is something I have to keep a close eye on, so I need to only eat the bananas that are still green, and not very many of those.
I love peaches, nectarines and pears. I like berries of all kinds but I stick to those that don't give me fits with seeds in my teeth, like blueberries.
I am not so fond of oranges, but the little cuties (tangerines) when they are sweet I like those.
And then there's the apple. The good old apple.
So, it's not that I don't like fruit. That does not factor in so I find no reason to not be eating fruit. Was that a double negative?
Anywho, I have decided I need to catch up with my own diet plan and get munching on more fruits.
Fortunately, there is an Old Fashioned Market just a block away that I can walk over to and get fresh fruits and vegetables any time. At least, any time between April and November.
Are you including fruits in your daily eats? If you are munching on raw celery or raw carrots instead then I commend you.
While I am thinking of including more RAW type foods in my diet I need to bring up the recent story on the news about a parasite making people sick.
Fresh produce can be contaminated with parasites like Cyclospora and there seems to be an outbreak of this happening.
They recommend a good washing of hands and produce before eating or cooking it to 158 degrees Fahrenheit (or 70 degrees Celsius).
I am not cooking my tangerine. So I will wash it and then peel it. Same for my banana.
I wanted my kids to watch the orchestra, but I had to turn it off. Too much sax and violins.
