Here's what's happening right now

I am eyeball deep in doing the taxes. That's one thing that's happening right now.
I am looking at habits. Habits formed in childhood and those I purposely worked on making as a young adult, as an adult, and now as an old gal. That's another thing that's happening right now in my little world.
When I was a kid my family moved around a lot. I was raised up half in the city and half on farms. We lived in Ohio - in the city, in Georgia - in the swamp, in Texas - in a dustbowl, and several different places in Washington state - some cities, some farms.
What I have come to realize is that certain habits were formed because of the many moves and other habits formed because we lived on a farm and I'm sure there are more because we lived in cities that I just haven't focused on yet.
Specifically I became aware that I will be up for quite a long time before I get around to eating breakfast. I sometimes do chores first, sometimes do my blog, like this one, first. In the summertime it's outdoors doing gardening or whatever first before it gets too hot to do stuff outside.
It took a few beats before it came to me that this is a habit formed early on when we lived on farms. You got dressed, did your morning routine, then went out to collect the eggs, milk the cow, throw out the hay, fill the grain buckets, spread the grain on the ground for the chickies, muck out the stalls, throw down fresh straw (and sawdust in the winter), etc.
THEN you went inside to have breakfast.
If I remember right, the grown-ups threw down a cup of coffee first. Us kids though, we got right to it because we had to get ready for school right after chow.
Then when we got home from school we got right to our house chores. We wanted to get those out of the way as quick as possible so that we had time to go play before dinner and evening outdoor chores. After that was homework if we had any. If we hurried on that then there might be time for boardgames or cards (this was before we had a television) before bedtime.
So this habit of not eating breakfast when I first get up is something that was established many years ago.
With all the studies I have done in recent years on nutrition and forming good eating habits I have learned that is not necessarily the best thing to do if you are hoping to lose weight. I am afraid it's too late for me to change this though.
