I talk about diet, nutrition, menus and beverages like various teas.
I talk about movies and t.v. shows and streaming, even videos.
I talk about budgeting and being frugal.
I have talked about how I like to read and I have talked about magazines and books that I am or have read.
I do not think that I have ever done a book review. So this might be a first. I am currently finishing up a book entitled "Dark and Shallow Lies". The title intrigued me and this is why I chose the book; that and the cover art. I read the wee blurb about it too and then bought it online. (It's a hard cover book, btw.)
Now I am compelled to say that this author is not just inexperienced, it's her first book, but she's clearly in the authorship business due to nepotism. Her parents are authors.
The author's name is : Ginny Myers Sain
The story premise is good. The writing stinks. I actually read the book reviews before buying the book and they were stellar, praising the author's debut work and saying how absorbing the story was, grabbing you and holding you captive right from the first chapter.
I disagree.
Her description of the hot, swampy, humid nastiness of the outer bayou is there but lacking. There is an obvious need to mention fear of the giant, aged, alligator nicknamed "Willie Nelson", but it wasn't there.
I will post a picture of the cover and you will see what I mean especially if this is your kind of read being in this genre of mystery and magic. Or so it indicated. Yes, it's YA (young adult) but usually I like those, sometimes better than upper adult, due to the ridiculous sexual descriptions that are often the cause of me skipping several pages in the adult books. (They all tend to be the same and are there to titillate, LOL, which really detracts from the story for me.)
If you decide to give this book a try yourself, let me know if you agree with the other book reviews or if you, like me, wish that the story, which was good, had been told better.
Topic switch:
I am a bit frustrated over my loss of vision. I have cut back on my painting, my beading, my crafting due to lack of inspiration and visual impairment.
So to answer an inquiry about my other webpage featuring items done and up for grabs, no there has not been anything new posted. It's not just the eyesight that is the cause of that it is having a house overloaded with items crafted. These things have to go before more is made. So I will be placing a lot of the items on Craigslist to get rid of them in order to make room for anything that I might get inspired to do. I will let you know when the ad is placed. I have hesitated to do this because it will have to be local in order to avoid the cost of shipping.
What should you do if you’re attacked by a group of clowns?
Go straight for the juggler.
