Did you say budget? LOL

Yeah well, if you are like me you have been trying but it's not been easy. Not with the utilities, not with the insurance, and not with the groceries.

I am a frugal person. No doubt about that. But it's getting increasingly hard to buy food that you normally buy, to stock up when things are on sale, and to stick inside the confines of a realistic budget.

I am spending more than I used to spend for sure. True, I have started buying things that I did not buy a decade ago in my efforts to eat a more healthy diet on a regular basis.

How is it that eating healthy costs more? I don't get why buying something that has no salt costs more than stuff that has salt on it. If they don't have to supply me with something why do they charge more for it?

I am trying to avoid salt as much as possible. I have learned that many foods already contain sodium naturally. So the added salt is an overload. I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure and have to take medication as a result of that diagnosis and one of the many things they advise is to avoid added salt.

So I buy the low sodium soy sauce, the no-salt-added canned goods when they are offered, and always the no salt nuts, like peanuts or cashews. This includes seeds too, like sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds.

Have you taken note of the price of sesame seeds? Almost a dollar an ounce! That's per ounce. So a tiny 2 ounce bottle is two bucks. Sheesh. I can use a whole ounce on one dish.

It's nuts. (I know, you are a dink and immediately thought....no not nuts, seeds.)

hee hee

Anyways, how are we supposed to continue learning and growing in our new way of eating if the food keeps getting more expensive?

For a plain and simple loaf of sourdough bread (not even the artisan style or the healthy brand) it's five bucks!!

I can't even entertain the idea of buying that recommended Ezekiel bread. Are you kidding?

So what to do?

Tell you what, I will do the research and the menu plans for a 'budget' friendly list, how's that? How much do you have to spend per week? What would be a reasonable budget for you? Let me know and I'll see what I can come up with, that will be within those borders and still be healthy.

Have you considered tofu? I did a whole thing about tofu and I am going to try it and as I understand it, that stuff is way cheaper than meat and it is a meat substitute.

And canned salmon? I did a thing about the canned fish a long time ago. It too, is cheaper and just as healthy as the fresh stuff.

Why is no one friends with Dracula?

Because he’s a pain in the neck.
