So they have turned the food pyramid upside down. What used to be a pyramid is now a...what....an upside down triangle?
I do agree with some of it and think it's a good idea on those notes, but be careful of following it in it's entirety. Let me break that down to be clearer.
On January 7, 2026, the U.S. government introduced a new food pyramid as part of the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. This marks a significant shift in federal nutrition policy, emphasizing a return to whole, nutrient-dense foods.
I agree with the 'whole foods' concept. It also emphasizes reducing ultra-processed foods and added sugars. I sure go along with this. Great suggestion.
However it puts red meat as the foundation of the dietary recommendations and I fully disagree with that in a big way. I mean fully disagree totally!!
Still, I have to say, overall it is a pretty good plan. I would have liked that they put fruits and vegetables in a better place though.
So I recommend that you do what is going to be best for you and your overall health based on your situation, your body, your needs, and your budget. How can you know what that might be? Pay attention to how your body feels, how you feel, when you eat certain foods. If you find that after a fast food burger and fries you are hungry again in an hour - that's a telltale sign that your body wants something else and it's telling you to eat something else by signaling hunger so soon after eating. So stop eating that type of food.
Do the research. Gotta love the many websites on the internet, like WebMD, Heathline, Medlineplus.gov, etc.
Wherever you end up: Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see who sponsored the page and/or info or who's website it actually is to determine if the information is trendy, sensational, or based on current science.
Most of all, trust your instincts.
I have studied nutrition for several years now and feel that the answer to many health issues is to eat a diet high in fiber.
I hate snow and ice. When I was a kid I used to think it was great when it snowed and loved to play in it. First, I lived where it hardly ever snowed so it was a rare thing. Second, it didn't last so it was a one day thing. Third, it was like a Holiday and where I lived, they might cancel school for a 'snow day'. Yay!!
Now? That stuff is cold, and unforgiving. It's slick and nasty to drive in. It's heavy and hard to shovel. It is dangerous for us older people to try and walk around on. Snow compacts and turns into a sheet of ice. Ice is of course, icy and slick. Duh.
Yes I switched topics. LOL.
I do not understand people who like the snow and the cold. I understand there are sports and activities that depend on layers of snow. And I encourage people to head to the mountains and enjoy the heck out of those things all they want.
No snow in the Valley.
