What's cooking right now? (Weds,7/9)

Right now there is a pot of Harira cooking. It takes about 15 minutes of preparation plus 45 minutes to cook first, then another 10 minutes to finish cooking. So, you will want to start early if you plan to make this yourself.

Now is this a Greek recipe? Is it a recipe from Lebanon? It's a Mediterranean soup, so where does it come from?

Harira is a traditional North African soup prepared in Morocco and Algeria. Algerian Hariri differs from Moroccan Hariri in that Algerian Hariri does not contain lentils. My soup has lentils so this one is Moroccan. It is also part of the Maghrebi cuisine, where lemon juice and egg are added to brighten the flavors of the soup. I didn't do that with mine, so again it's Moroccan.

It has warm spices and chickpeas and spinach, however I used turnip greens instead of spinach to give it a brighter taste and because I eat enough spinach in other dishes so I did not want to overdo it with one food. AND I add chicken, too.

So tonight's menu is a big bowl of Harira soup and dinner rolls with butter.

What do you think? Sound good to you?
