It's that time of year. Corn mazes. Spooky costumes. Fun houses. Pumpkins everywhere - which the squirrels will commandeer.
It's so much fun. Gets my blood pumping with excitement.
Yet, I live daily with 'stuff' that is spooky, out of the ordinary, even what you might call supernatural. Somehow, that's different.
I said I would at some point go into the whole thing about tea. Maybe now is a good time to do that so that I don't get into the haunted thing to heavily?
Let me start with ordinary BLACK TEA. Reduces Risk of Stroke: Black tea consumption is associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke (around 11% - 23%).
Lowers Blood Pressure: Consumption of black tea can lower the rate of systolic (2%) and diastolic (1.5%) blood pressure in individuals with normal to high range blood pressure.
There's more. Lots more. But for me, these two things is enough to make it worth the bother.
Unlike true teas, which are brewed from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, herbal teas are made from dried fruits, flowers, spices, or herbs. In 'tea circles' these are known as herbals (sometimes infusions).
CHAMOMILE tea is most commonly known for its calming effects and is frequently used as a sleep aid.
Though PEPPERMINT tea is most popularly used to support digestive health, it also has antioxidant, anticancer, antibacterial, and antiviral properties.
I have been drinking spearmint tea as I talked about before.
GINGER tea contains disease-fighting antioxidants and is a well-known remedy for nausea.
In addition to its bold color and unique floral flavor, HIBISCUS tea offers healthful properties.
Though research is mixed, some studies Trusted Source suggest that hibiscus could significantly reduce total and LDL (bad) cholesterol.
ECHINACEA tea is a popular remedy that’s said to prevent and treat the common cold.
ROOIBOS is an herbal tea that was historically used for medicinal purposes.
Though more research on humans is needed, one 2016 studyTrusted Source found that rooibos may have anti-allergy effects.
Research from 2018Trusted Source has found that rooibos may inhibit the formation of osteoclasts. These cells break down old bones, which is essential for preserving, repairing, and reshaping your skeleton. Inhibiting their formation may help people living with diseases that cause the production of too many osteoclasts, such as osteoporosis.
SAGE tea is well-known for its medicinal properties and potential benefits for brain health.
Various older studies on sage have found improvements in the cognitive function of those with Alzheimer’s disease.
There are more of course. I'll cover those in another post at some point if there is interest.
As you can see, there are lots of benefits to drinking tea and herbals too.
I have a large assortment of teas myself and enjoy them in between my many cups of decaf coffee.
Living in a haunted house has the advantage of having certain herbals pointed out and sometimes even laid out for me.
